The masons continue to lay the concrete block walls even though this is turning out to be the hottest summer on record.  Heavy equipment is used to help move the materials.

The masons are staging the block into piles around the perimeter of the house.  This will help them to lay the block efficiently.  Once complete, plaster will be applied to the block walls.

Allied Concrete Products has contributed to the Charity House by discounting their block materials…thank you very much Allied!  This is the first of many block deliveries that will be required to cover the entire house, garage and the courtyard walls.

The windows and doors have been installed and trimmed on the main house.  The masons are now ready to begin installing the exterior concrete block walls.  The detached garage is progressing nicely and will have gable ends matching the main house.  A pergola will soon be installed on the left wall of the garage providing a decorative architectural feature as well as an additional parking space.

While the windows were being installed by the framer, Crumley Group carpenters custom built the exterior window trims in the workshop.  The next day, these frames were easily installed around each window with minimal tools needed to complete this task.

Many thanks to Terry Gearheart for volunteering his time to set up and manage the Charity House Facebook page.

One view from the second floor master suite shows the rear courtyard.  The stairs inside this two-car garage will lead up to a flex space with a full bathroom, a kitchenette and plenty of room for a studio apartment, playroom or study.  The concrete block foundation at the center of the rear garage wall will support an exterior wood burning fireplace.  A masonry chimney will extend up above the garage roof line.

The exterior wall sheathing and house wrap are now in progress.  The foyer and exterior breezeway areas at the front right corner are now being erected.

The decorative gable ends were a daunting task.  Luckily, our framer enjoys a challenge.  He created an oversized puzzle down on the ground then carried it up over 35 feet and assembled it from his notes.
